If you find yourself spending a lot of money on content marketing and getting little back, you may be thinking ‘why am I doing this?’ or ‘Wow… I didn’t think this would be so expensive.’
There are a few things you can do to minimise the cost, but the number one reason WHY content marketing is so expensive is simple
You need a marketing plan.
It’s as simple as that.
A marketing plan is a document that you can use to identify what activities you’re doing; how much time you’re spending on each action and what resources you need to invest in it.
A correctly written marketing plan also sets out our budget, broken down by each platform, with a weekly, monthly and yearly budget.
Now, you may be thinking if you use an outside agency to do your marketing you don’t need a plan. However that’s false, if you’re using an agency, make sure they at least have a plan and strategy written with you involved.
Content marketing is a great tool to drive traffic to your website and build up your personal and brand awareness. However, it is only a small part of your marketing activities and shouldn’t be your only marketing activity.
However, one thing you need to remember if your business is growing and you’re gaining new customers, your content marketing isn’t too expensive (even if the budget seems high!)
Make a plan, and budget your content marketing – AND STICK TO IT
